Afrokilla at the Movement Gallery

Grassroots Chicago had the pleasure of starting off the new year with an exhibit by Keith Smith, aka Afrokilla, at the Movement Gallery. Afrokilla is a Chicago local and this was his first solo show in his city! Congrats!The theme of the show was based around the experiences of a young artist skateboarding through the city of Chicago. Afrokilla brought the city inside the storefront by incorporating outside pieces like caution cones, street signs, and power lines which had shoes hanging from them. GRC Movement Gallery - Chicago's Own JC Rivera

We opened our Movement Gallery space to The Bear Champ on December 19th. The Bear Champ, also know as JC Rivera, is a staple street artist in the Chicago scene. His work can be seen throughout the city and his iconic bear character can be spotted from a mile away.  The opening party for “The Bear Necessities” exhibit was crackin'! With JC Rivera having a solid following a lot of his fans came out to the party. We had beverages from Lagunitas Brewing Company, Passion House Coffee and Essentia Water. Pumpkin Appreciation

By: Ryan Simoneau Nick “Pumpkin” Alvarado, touched thousands of people with his signature music productions and acclaimed DJ sets at top music festivals and clubs across the US and abroad. He tragically passed away in early 2016, but his generous spirit and magical music will continue to live on.    To honor his memory, Nick’s best friend and Little Giants production partner, Evan “Everyman” Shafran, started The Little Giant Acorn Foundation for The Arts, a non-profit organization that helps children get started in music or the performing arts who otherwise could not afford to do so.  Nick absolutely loved to share his passion for music and performance art with the next generation and nothing gave him more joy.       By...

Grassroots Chicago's Movement Gallery has become a special place, showcasing amazing artwork and aiming to become the go-to spot in both the Grassroots and Chicago Street Art communities.  The team has been hard at work curating quality art month after month. From the first show with renowned psychedelic visionary artist Chris Dyer in September, to Chicago's own Elloo, to San Fran's legendary Sam Flores the team has a goal to connect the art scene to our festival culture, and the collaboration has gone swimmingly. Never Summer x Grassroots Collaboration

This winter season marks the first collaboration with our favorite local snowboarding juggernaut: Never Summer. They are celebrating their 25th anniversary making premium snowboards right here in the mile high city, and we are honored to be a part of it. We designed a photo type 2 NS board that is exclusively available through Grassroots, and two commemorative 25th anniversary hats available exclusively through Never summer. We asked our designer, Steven what inspired his creations for this collaboration.
