Celebrating Small Business Saturday
Most people might think that November 26th is just another regular day during the holiday season. However for small businesses all across America, this day is one of the most important days of the year. Established back in 2010, Small Business Saturday is a day meant for celebrating communities all over by encouraging everyone to shop locally. Rather than deal with the insanity and madness of Black Friday, why not take a stab at shopping small next week?!
Grassroots California will once again be taking part in Small Business Saturday and we wanted to take some time to highlight some of our favorite people, artists, and companies that we will be doing our holiday shopping with!
“Conscious Alliance is a nonprofit organization committed to supporting communities in crisis through hunger relief and youth empowerment.” These folks are some of our favorite humans to work with. Each year they organize hundreds of food drives across the nation as well as raise awareness on hunger. Through their “Art that Feeds Program” you can purchase or donate canned food for posters, apparel, memorabilia, and so much more. These all make great gifts for the music lovers in your life!
Based out of Boulder, CO, Phil Lewis is an incredibly gifted visionary artist whose artwork is based off of things he sees in nature. Colorful, fluid, and smooth, he is able to combine regular and digital artwork to fully present his artistic creativity and vision. We are incredibly honored to collaborate with someone as awesome as Phil. From kid's books, to apparel, to original artwork, you'll have a great selection of awesome items to choose from.
3. Festy Besty
If you’re not sure what to get that cute little lady of yours for the holidays, then you’re in luck because Festy Besty has one of the best selections of cute and fashionable clothing out there. Based out of Chicago, our good friends Paige and Ryne have been making big moves on the festival scene and online with their chic streetwear and festival fashion.
Easily one of the funniest people you’ll ever meet, Jared from Lost Sailor Leather can pretty much make you anything your heart desires for custom work, or you can check out his immaculate selection of artwork in his etsy shop. Some of his more popular items include wallets, women and men’s utility belts, leather bound journals, keychains, and purses and are all handmade.
David and Jon Swartz are the masterminds behind Black Ink Artwork and you’ll find that it is all black light reactive, making these specific pieces of art incredibly unique. Whether you’re looking for an original canvas, prints, or a shower curtain, these fellas have you covered.
This company makes customizable belts that donate back to 1 of 4 different non-profits with each sale and they fit and wear so much better than that of leather belts. For anyone on your holiday shopping list who is need of a new belt, these are a perfect fit since they are waterproof, easy to clean, and have a lifetime warranty.
