Nine years between drops. Six versions deep. The ROYGBIVLSD is back — and it's never looked like this.
This is the seventh collab between Grassroots California and Saxton Waller, the legendary lighting designer behind two decades of STS9 and now the man painting the stage for Billy Strings every night. The design hasn't changed because it doesn't need to. What started in 2011 as an embroidered crown of color has become one of the most recognized pieces in festival headwear — and this version is the most refined it's ever been.
The 501 pre-curved snapback sits low. Up front, Saxton's signature geometric lighting motif is embroidered in full spectrum — red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet. Rainbow stitch detail traces the brim from edge to edge. The side panel carries the "ROYGBIVLSD" tag in color-blocked letters.
This is a limited run. The five versions that came before this one are gone — sitting in display cases and private collections. The people who have them know what they have.
If you missed the last nine years of this collab, here's your window.
